Our Vision

Reduction of poverty as well as the improvement of livelihood of rural people, and peri-urban youths through beekeeping in Nigeria.

Our Mission

To equip local people with skills in beekeeping, so as to reduce rural poverty and improve health and livelihood.

Overreaching goal:

to setup a beekeeping center to train rural youths and farmers in beekeeping: a long-term approach to relieve poverty and improve livelihood

Training Youths in Beekeeping; A Tool for Poverty Reduction

Youths are regularly trained in beekeeping so as to reduce unemployment and poverty. This has proved to be an effective tool as more youths are getting involved.
 We are happy to have six new beekeepers joining the campaign. This will ensure a reduction in the prevalence of adulterated which has flooded the Nigerian honey market.

Projects

  • Provision of bee suits

The organisation has led a project on the provision of beesuits for youths and rural dwellers. Funds were raised from donors and this was used to purchase and distribute beesuits to trained beekeepers. A recent project on “Beekeeping for youths and rural dwellers in Gbongan, Osun State, Nigeria”. The aim was to expose them to ways they can maximize profit in beekeeping and also promote biodiversity conservation by encouraging them to plant trees.

About Jorafarm and Associates

Jorafarm and Associates started in 2005. It has mainly been involved in apiculture. Seminars and workshops aimed at helping unemployed youths and rural people most especially girls and women. The initiative started with two youths, since then, over 30 youths have been trained in beekeeping. The organization currently receives resource material from Bees for Development, UK, an organization supporting beekeepers in developing countries. The materials are distributed free of charge to the trainees. The organisation equips the youths by training them in beekeeping.
